I’m Melodie, and “Mills” is my daughter’s nickname. I started blogging and recipe writing over ten years ago, but I changed my blog name to Melo & Mills in 2023 to represent how motherhood marked me.
Becoming a parent made me even more dedicated to environmentalism, as keeping our planet healthy is crucial for the next generation. It forced me to navigate what a zero waste lifestyle looks like with a baby. And it shaped me as a home cook and recipe writer. Building family-friendly recipes has diversified my repertoire in the kitchen.
Why plant-based?
I’ve chosen a plant-based approach to food because it’s a straightforward way to reduce our carbon footprint and harm to animals. It can also be health-promoting for some people.
My recipes are entirely vegan and rely very little on pre-packaged foods. While most of my recipes are from scratch, I also provide subs to help you adapt them to your schedule.
Does individual action make a difference?
Let’s be clear. As individuals, we are not responsible for climate change or the devastating environmental impacts of industry. So, with that in mind, this space is not for finger-pointing or climate shaming.
Instead, I hope to inspire people because I believe individual action makes a difference. It’s the sum of our collective efforts and the fact that it inspires optimism. Caring enough to take action gives us all hope that change is possible.
So, whether you ditch plastic, vote for climate, or go vegan, your actions challenge the status quo. As a parent, citizen action inspires me and fills me with gratitude.
