DIY Pine-Infused Vinegar: Green Cleaning Solution

Looking for an easy green cleaning solution? Do you still have your natural Christmas tree? Don’t forget to snap off a couple of branches to make some pine-infused vinegar. It’s so simple, add a generous handful of pine branches and vinegar to a jar and let it sit.

Pine vinegar is now one of our daily cleaning products for kitchen counters. I love that it’s completely natural and food-safe, making it an excellent option for people with small children. The scent of pine cuts the vinegar for a sweeter smell.

Does cleaning with vinegar work?

Vinegar is a great cleaner, made from acetic acid. It’s powerful enough to dissolve mineral deposit, dirt, grease, and grime. It’s also strong enough to kill some bacteria. Just be careful about what you use it for as acid can damage certain surfaces. Don’t use vinegar for marble, granite, wood or certain metal surfaces.

One jar lasts me a full year, but if you tend to use multipurpose cleaners often, then make two jars. This whole project costs under a dollar.

If you don’t have a Christmas tree, snap a couple of branches off someone else’s. During January, Christmas trees are lining all the curbs, so take advantage!

Directions:

  1. Place a generous handful of pine branches into a clean glass jar (750 ml).
  2. Fill the jar with white vinegar.
  3. Allow the mixture to steep in a dark, cool place for anywhere from six weeks to six months. The longer it steeps, the stronger the small.
  4. Strain liquid into a spray bottle or container of choice.
