Easy Homemade Glass Cleaner [Cheap & Eco-Friendly]

Why buy when you can make it? Here’s my favourite recipe for a streak-free glass cleaner made from simple pantry ingredients. It’s cheap and super easy to make and if you’re sensitive to the smell of Windex, your nostrils will thank you.

This recipe is adapted from Les Mauvaise Herbes, a local French-language Quebecois shop for DIY home and body products. I love their website, blog and in-person shop on St. Hubert in Montreal’s Rosemont neighbourhood. If you visit Montreal, visit St. Hubert for its many zero waste shops and cafes. Les Mauvaise Herbes has been a big influence on me and my DIY journey. Merci!

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup rubbing alcohol
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp starch (corn, tapioca or arrowroot)

Add everything to a spray bottle and shake. Always give it a little shake before use. Store for a few months.

Caution: Rubbing alcohol is flammable. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid breathing in the glass cleaner during use.

Remember, when creating DIY products, you must be extremely careful about what chemicals you mix to avoid a harmful reaction. Make sure to do extensive research before adapting the recipe.
